About The Book

This book explores the challenges in the management of Intellectual Property (IP) in Kenya's public museums. The research is a single case study of the National Museums of Kenya (NMK) a corporate body whose ambit is to oversee the management of public museums in Kenya. The theoretical underpinning of this study is management theory. The study uses Sullivan's model to explain the Intellectual Property Management (IPM) process and related challenges in museums. The target group was comprised of museum professionals namely museum curators managers directors and administrators. Respondents were selected from a population of museums managed by The National Museums of Kenya (NMK). The sample selection method was purposive. Multiple methods of data collection were used. Results indicate that IPR awareness in NMK's museums is still very low and IP management structures are largely lacking in public museums. However strategies have been set by NMK management to address these shortfalls.
