This article attempts a critical reading and analysis of some of the nuances of Adwaita Mallabarman‘s Bengali novel TitasEkti Nadir Naam [A River Named Titas] as a Subaltern text written by an insider-experiencer of the subaltern Malo community from East Bengal. The importance of the text as a cultural record of the Malo community that lives in the fringes of society is highlighted and the paper also questions the ―truth claims‖ of the centralized grand narratives and their narrow historiographic methodologies in line with the discipline of Subaltern Study. The paper explores how like a Testimonio Titas also foregrounds the culture of the Malos yet falls short of being a Testimonio as it lacks the crusading spirit for emancipation and direction for it
