About The Book

The acronym STEM coined first in 1990s has come to represent a body of field that stands for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. The term can be applied to education academia and industry related to these disciplines. Earlier considered to be a male-dominated field of study and work STEM has come a long way. Women scientists students and researchers have made a mark for themselves in a field earlier dominated by males due to lesser opportunities. It was generally men who occupied STEM classrooms and later built a career in these fields creating a lop-sided gender ratio in classrooms academia and industry. Also a need is felt to understand this area of study in its totality starting from history and its implications to the merging dimensions in the form of new careers and new representations.
