Maurizio Nichetti's Soap Thieves is an intertextual construct. The filmmaker proposes a dialogue between the past and the present by returning to Vittorio de Sica's Bicycle Thieves. Nichetti's work which takes place on different narrative levels has a lot to teach us about pastiche playful parody comedy as well as the worlds of cinema and advertising. It's a beautiful piece of work both because it makes us laugh and because it moves us and because it gives us a broader and more elaborate understanding of the concept of intertextuality.
