Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and related opportunistic infections are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in susceptible population. Intestinal parasite profile in HIV positive patients vary from place to place due to the difference in geographic distribution of parasites. This study aims to negate the paucity of data regarding the relation between Immune status (determined by the number of CD-4 cells) prevalence of enteric parasites and the outcome of treatment with HAART (highly active anti-retroviral therapy) and Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim in Kerala India. Emphasis is also given on the comparison between various diagnostic techniques.
