Introducing Children's Literature

Introducing Children’s Literature is a book based on a course on Children’s Literature at Kenyatta University Kenya since 2002. In essence this is a book about Children’s Literature. It is designed on a taught course and it is useful for anyone engaged in the formal study of Children’s Literature. In 2000’s when the course was initially designed and initiated in the university there were very few resources for those interested in studying Children’s Literature than there are today. Today interest in Children’s Literature has seen a number of children’s books published annually leading to a lot of attention in this area. The aim of this book is to deepen understanding of children’s books and Children’s Literature in general. The book is primarily intended as an introduction to the subject providing a sound foundation for further study. Since this is a first book of its kind in Kenya questions such as ’What is Children’s Literature?’ ''what is the role of Children’s Literature and what are the various genres in Children''s Literature among others have been addressed.
