About The Book

John Lok’s conceptualization of facility management science emphasizes the psychological approach which explores how the built environment influences the internal states of both employees and customers.

My view explains that the perceived quality of a facility directly impacts the service performance of employees; a comfortable safe and ergonomically sound workplace reduces cognitive load and physical fatigue thereby increasing individual productive efficiency.

The Psychological and Behavioral Economic Framework
The core of my theory lies in the intersection of human psychology and the physical workspace. My view posits that when an organization invests in a dedicated facility management department it creates a protection layer for the consumer. This protection is both physical (safety and hygiene) and psychological (comfort and trust).

From a behavioral economic perspective the efficiency of an organization can be modeled by the relationship between the environment (E) and the output (O). My view suggests that:O=f(PET)Where O is the organizational output P represents psychological readiness and training of staff E is the quality of the facility environment and T is the technical tools provided.[1] [5] If E is neglected the marginal utility of P and T diminishes leading to a decrease in overall service performance and customer satisfaction.
