Introduction to African American and Gujarati Dalit Literature

The present book deals with the literature of two marginalized groups of people the Indian Dalits and the African Americans. Dalit writing is a post-independence literary phenomenon. Here in this book the author has focused on the Gujarati Dalit wiring only. The emergence of Gujarati Dalit has a great historical significance. It has served the purpose of awakening and the consciousness of the downtrodden for forging their identities. Like Dait writers in India African American writers in the U.S. have given expression in their writing to the protest against the established order of society that discriminates one man from another on the basis of caste color and religion. The present book makes a rich contribution to the areas of Gujarati Dalit literature and African American literature. It is a humble effort to introduce the neglected parts of Indian social fabric and White American society. The book will surely help the researchers to get glimpses of Gujarati Dalit and African American literature.
