It was later revised and published by The Commercial Press. The book is divided into four parts: A Survey of Indian Schools Ontology Epistemology and The Theory of Worldly Existence. It comprehensively introduces the philosophies of various Indian schools and their relationship with Buddhism. As a groundbreaking work that initiated academic research in this field it remains a model for modern Chinese scholarship on Indian philosophy.《印度哲学概论》原为梁漱溟于1918-1919年在北京大学哲学系教授印度哲学课程期间的讲义,后经修订由商务印书馆出版。全书分印度各宗概略本体论认识论世间论四篇,全面介绍了印度哲学各宗的思想及其与佛教的关系,开启了学院派研究的先河,是中国现代印度哲学研究的典范之作。Liang Shuming (1893-1988)Liang Shuming was a renowned Chinese thinker educator and social reform activist in the 20th century. He was born in Beijing with ancestral roots in Guilin Guangxi. His original name was Liang Huan Ding with the courtesy names Shou Ming and Shu Ming; he later became widely known as Liang Shuming. In 1917 he began teaching at Peking University and seven years later he dedicated himself to the Rural Construction Movement. During the War of Resistance against Japan he participated in the founding of the China Democratic League to promote unity between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party against the Japanese invasion. Later he engaged in negotiations between the two parties for peaceful national reconstruction. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China he served as a member and standing committee member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and as a member of the Committee for the Revision of the Constitution.Throughout his life Liang focused on two fundamental issues: the problem of human life and the problem of China-that is Why do we live? and Where is China headed? He devoted himself to thinking and taking action aimed at these two questions. His major works include Introduction to Indian Philosophy Eastern and Western Cultures and Their Philosophies Theory of Rural Reconstruction The Essential Meaning of Chinese Culture The Human Mind and Life and An Overview of Eastern Learning.梁漱溟(1893-1988)20世纪中国著名思想家、教育家、社会改造运动者。生于北京,原籍广西桂林。原名焕鼎,字寿铭,又字漱冥,后以漱溟行世。1917年入北京大学任教,七年后投身乡村建设运动。抗战中参与创建民盟促进国共团结抗敌,后又为和平建国参与国共和谈。新中国成立后历任全国政协委员、常委及宪法修改委员会委员。一生用心于人生问题与中国问题,即人为什么活着?中国往何处去?为此两大问题而思考而行动。主要著作有《印度哲学概论》《东西文化及其哲学》《乡村建设理论》《中国文化要义》《人心与人生》《东方学术概观》等。
