INVESTIGATIONS ON DNA BINDING WITH HETEROCYCLIC LIGANDS

Bivalent transition metal complexes with heterocyclic ligands containing nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms are known to exhibit interesting stereochemical electrochemical and electronic properties. Heterocyclic compounds are versatile ligands. The ligands are synthesized from the condensation of an amino compound with carbonyl compound. Metal complexes of heterocyclic ligands are widely used for biological and industrial purposes. They also exhibit a wide range of biological activities. There has been significant progress in the coordination chemistry of heterocyclic ligands due to their versatility to form various types of complexes. Metal complexes with heterocyclic ligands play pivot role in bioinorganic chemistry. These metal complexes exhibit interesting properties and versatile applications in biology. The complexes of tridentate ligands have been regarded as 'models' for active sites of metallo-proteins.
