The height of a structure is relative and cannot be precisely defined using universal measures such as height or number of stories. However from a structural engineering perspective a tall structure can be characterized as one where its height subjects it to significant lateral forces from wind or earthquake or both influencing its structural design. For instance a tall structure is defined by its greater emphasis on resisting lateral loads during the design phase compared to gravity loads.
