About The Book

Isobel of Glenmoriston is an insight into the love of a wife for her Scottish Highlander husband who after the failed Jacobite Rising of 1745 has to survive and rebuild their lives in the face of untold atrocities and hardships. Married to Padruig Dubh Grant one of the infamous Seven Glenmoriston Men Isobel is not re-united with her husband who has to hide in a cave to escape execution. Her Mither is killed as the family escapes from marauding redcoats as Isobel and her children take shelter in a tiny dwelling after having all that they owned burned to the ground and horses and livestock stolen. Finally Padruig is able to return to start to rebuild and re-plant crops but years later with still an incomplete home in which to house his family Isobel once again finds herself alone trying to battle keeping the family together when he is taken from her again into service in New France. At the hands of the English-Hanoverian Government Isobel battles to survive and tries to carve a livelihood out of the ever-diminishing opportunities in the Highlands as the Clearances strip the land of more and more people. In the format of letters and diary entries is it possible that she will not survive this time? With despair setting in who wants to save her? This is Isobel's story.
