<p>My students often ask me how I choose Japanese short stories. For me Japan has never felt like a foreign land nor has Japanese ever felt like a foreign language. Just as I find joy in writing in Marathi I equally enjoy writing in Japanese&mdash;especially about the nuances of Japanese culture.</p><p>These interests naturally flow into my fiction. I have made a conscious effort to craft my stories in both Marathi and Japanese hoping to bridge the two literary worlds. My greatest wish is for Marathi readers to embrace them with the same enthusiasm and curiosity that I feel while writing them.</p>
