“Jayee Rajguru” is a historical play based on a real life episode of exceptional bravery patriotism and ultimate sacrifice by an unsung hero from Odisha – Jayakrushna Mahapatra Rajguru – the Marshal of India’s war of Independence “Paika Bidroha” (1804 - 1825). Masterfully crafted by physicist turned playwright late Prof. A.K. Meeshraw in 1978 the play deftly portrays the character of an indomitable patriot in igniting a mass uprising against the British in 1804. As the plot thickens one comes across diverse characters: some fall for allurements and other peeved by spurning of their one-sided love betray the motherland. Yet the hero endures all odds remains unblemished and unflinching in his mission to free his motherland from the British. An arresting story of an Indian martyr that would make Bollywood blockbusters in the genre look pale and drab!
