More and more nursing staff are thinking about leaving the nursing profession. In order to keep employees in the profession it is important to promote their job satisfaction. One important instrument in personnel management is the employee appraisal. This master's thesis examines the relevance of employee appraisals (appraisal interviews) for job satisfaction in long-term care. The aim is to examine whether appraisal interviews increase the satisfaction of nursing staff. The study is based on interviews with 15 nursing staff and a literature review. The results show that regular well-structured appraisal interviews have a positive effect on job satisfaction. Nursing staff feel valued and supported by such discussions which strengthens their loyalty to the employer. Managers can significantly increase satisfaction through targeted communication and feedback. It is essential to discuss individual concerns and professional development which promotes personal and professional recognition. Mayring's qualitative content analysis identifies relevant categories from the data. In conclusion it is recommended that MAGs be firmly integrated into the HR development strategy of long-term employees.
