As a seventh-generation Canadian I trace my roots back to my great-great-great-grandfather John Kidd an Irish immigrant who came to Upper Canada in 1822.HIs 97-year lifetime spanned from the early settlement of Upper Canada through the post-Confederation era. His life offers a powerful lens for thinking about how land which had once been home to countless generations of Indigenous families became home to generations of settlers.John Kidd's story also invites reflection on what it means to be a settler in today's Canada as we actively co-author a new chapter of Canadian history dedicated to reconciliation.
