John Robson may be regarded as one of the more important individuals in the history of British Columbia. From the time he arrived in the Crown colony as part of the Gold Rush in 1859 until his death as provincial premier in 1892 he was involved in all aspects of colonial and provincial affairs. It is unfortunate that historians have not given him the attention he deserves. During this period in his various roles of newspaper editor politician businessman and church elder he influenced as well as reflected British Columbia''s history. This biography reaffirms his importance and offers insights into both his life and his character. The examination of his career serves as a summary of the history of nineteenth century British Columbia.
