<p><em>Judo: Appendix Aikido</em> originally published in 1959 was written by Kenji Tomiki who for many years received personal instruction in Judo from the late Jigoro Kano founder of the Kodokan Judo Hall until the latter's death in 1938.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Tomiki specialized in Aikido and Judo throughout his martial arts career. He was the founder of the Japan Aikido Association and the competitive Aikido (Aikido kyogi) style.</p><p>In this book Mr. Tomiki covers a large part of the Judo curriculum as well as an Appendix introducing the concepts of Aikido.</p><p><br></p><p>The items covered for Judo include a general introduction training methods practice techniques contests and Judo as a health benefit.As far as Judo techniques are concerned the following are covered in text with accompanying photographs:</p><p><br></p><p>The Principle of Shizentai Kuzushi Ju-no-ri (Principle of Gentleness) Fundamentals and explanations of Nage-waza and Katame-waza.</p><p><br></p><p>The Appendix on Aikido covers the fundamentals of Aikido practice and 9 instances specific to self-defense with Aikido applications.</p><p><br></p><p>His explanation of Aikido which is based on the fundamental principles of Judo is so easy for ordinary people to understand and put into practice that all his students have shown an increasing ability in this particular art.</p>
