Many readers enjoy mythological books and consider the stories and characters to be true. On the other hand there are readers who refute these stories as imaginary and baseless. Through this book I have tried to maintain a logical and scientific view which lies somewhere in the middle between these two extreme view. It is for those readers who love to read mythology but at the same time judge the probable reality(ies) with rational minds. Of course we can never compare this small book (or booklet?) with the vastness of the Puranas . Rather it is better to say that it is my first experimental attempt taking only nine topics of mythology. There are plans to cover about few other topics in the upcoming publications. The topics have been explained in such a way that the mythological part has been discussed in the first part followed by an analytical discussion around it. Last but not the least I have emphasised that Hindu mythological epics be regarded as religio-historical literatures instead of mere religious books. Prabir Kumar Pal a passionate and thoughtful teacher of Biological Sciences in multiple schools and colleges is currently enjoying his retirement life. He completed his B.Sc. from Bankura Christian College M.Sc. from Delhi University and B.Ed. from David Hair Teachers'' Training College Kolkata. Apart from science he is also interested in mythology and religious subjects. This book is his first attempt in this field. He is currently busy writing a book on Botany. During his working life he was deeply associated with All Bengal Teachers'' Association[ABTA] National Council of Science Museum [NCSM] Paschim Banga Vigyan Mancha[PBVM] Sarbik Swaksharata Prakalpa[SSP] and other several social organisations.
