Justine or the Misfortunes of Virtue

The infamous Marquis de Sade brings to you a cruel tale of two orphaned sisters who parted ways and found a life of torment and sexuality. Juliette turns to a prostitute who promises her fame and fortune in 10 years during which she marries a wealthy nobleman and inherits his fortune in the years to come. She achieves the desired fortune as a wealthy widow, who although corrupt at heart, becomes skilful at portraying innocence. Justine on the other hand attempts to live a life of principle and virtue which sets in motion a series of events of brutality and cruelty exercised on her by brutal and monstrous strangers. De sade rationalises the whole story by explaining the moral of the story stating that virtue is the source of true happiness Will the brutality compensate Justine in any manner? Or will she fall prey to the harsh realities of life?
