At first he doesn't want to live with Pops-but then he sees Kameela Robinson jumping Double Dutch with her friends. As Freddy integrates into his new group of friends he gets to know Kameela including her troubled home life and her overbearing grandmother Mrs. Robinson who is hell-bent on ensuring Kameela doesn't get pregnant. But that doesn't stop Freddy and Kameela's attraction. Sneaking around the two fall in love the summer before their freshman year. The week before they're to start high school Kameela is suddenly gone. The Robinsons say she's on punishment sequestered away from Freddy and their young stupid love. But as the months pass and fall turns into winter Kameela remains gone and Freddy is lost without her.
