The monograph examines the process of formation and implementation of the Clinton administration''s strategy with regard to one of the key regions of the world - the Middle East. The novelty of the problem is associated with the changes that occurred both in world politics after the end of the Cold War and at the regional level.The Clinton administration in its Middle East strategy has tried to combine the traditional goals of American polydictics (control over oil resources and the fight against hostile regimes) and new approaches (the final settlement of the Middle East conflict and the assertion of democratic values). Particular attention in the analysis of US policy is paid to the influence of domestic political factors - public opinion and the activities of the ethnic lobby in the United States.
