King Pest

American author Edgar Allan Poes story The King Pest which contains an allegory was first published in September 1835. The primary enemy in the tale King Pest is King Pest. He is the alleged king of a country which is actually a basement with six inebriated beggars as his subjects. When he first shows up he is laughing and drinking with his subjects. He graciously invites Hugh and Legs to join them. Hugh is suspicious when the King and his peers are introduced since Will Wimble the Undertaker a friend of Hughs used to live in the Kings lair. The King who has been mildly upset maintains his composure and speaks courteously before threatening to drown rebels in October Ale.
