The call for a more self-determined education system with autonomous schools has been heard for several decades. Current reforms are responding to this and expanding the pedagogical and organisational scope of individual schools with the aim of bringing about improvements in the school system. This book focuses on the implementation of the legally established freedom for schools and the significance of school autonomy for school development. In this respect it examines the question of how increasing the productivity of knowledge work within the framework of school autonomy can contribute to school development at the school level.
