<p>The earliest known form of narrative in the African continent dates back to the post-World War II period when many African countries were seeking independence. African writers produced a substantial corpus of work in European languages. Oral literature was a prominent feature of African culture yet the lack of literary reforms has resulted in a dearth of systematic analysis of these creations. This selection encompasses fiction written in various regions of Africa including Nigeria Sierra Leone Tanzania Mozambique Malawi Kenya Algeria Egypt Sudan Morocco Zanzibar Libya South Africa Congo and Cameroon.</p>
