Kudzu Georgia tells the story of Sally Mae Hollifields first year as a grammar school teacher in the 1970s. She falls in love with her students the dirt poor children of a mill village in Appalachia.Besides teaching challenges Sally Mae encounters unforgettable Southerners their small-town petty politics and a ring of criminal activity. Despite these conflicts she makes friendships and meets her husband-to-be along the way.Kudzu Georgia is a contemporary novel inspired by Constance Bonannis experiences during her first year in teaching. Constance is now a teacher of teachers (she supervises student teachers in their classrooms) at our local university. She is a funny lady and her sense of humor permeates every page.
