La fiesta vigilada and Un seguidor de Montaigne mira La Habana

About The Book

This book is the result of extensive academic research at master's level into the novel La fiesta vigilada (2007) and the set of essays Un seguidor de Montaigne mira La Habana (1995) by Cuban writer Antonio José Ponte. In this study the author sets out to analyse the representations of Havana developed by the writer in order to interpret the various meanings that the images of the Cuban capital and its ruins acquire within these texts. Representations of Havana that are reproduced and multiplied in the pages of these books in which they are linked to Antonio José Ponte's personal memories but also to the island's recent history reflecting the transformations that took place in Cuba as a result of the main historical events of the second half of the 20th century such as the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the economic crisis of the 1990s.
