Kohls work is a collection of early 20th century homesteading accounts describing the experiences of her sister and herself. The same dramatic events -- land rushes blizzards prairie fires -- as in all the other versions of homesteader stories are told new somehow this time perhaps because Kohl adds a subtle political dimension that most other writers werent even aware of.
