Contemporary society is characterised by radical demographic change a pluralisation of interests and increasing cultural religious and linguistic diversity. Transnational migration flows mean that languages are becoming increasingly important for individual education processes but they are also important for the economic and social stability of a country. However the results of the PISA studies show that educational opportunities are primarily determined by social background and that pupils with a migrant background are often affected by educational disparities in education systems which minimises their educational and equal opportunities. This book clearly shows how the HIPPY programme can be used to promote the linguistic cognitive social and emotional skills of preschool children in order to reduce educational disparities in the long term.
