Las Aventuras de Enrique en Panamá is a comprehensible input reader written with my students in mind. They were enthusiastic and gave me candid feedback. This is a Spanish easy reader for Spanish students at the end of Spanish 1 or beginning Spanish 2. It is an adventure story that will take the readers to the beautiful scenery in Panama when an exchange student from Spain goes to Panama and learns about his familys historical past and its connection to the legend of a beautifully shaped mountain named La India Dormida which attracts many visitors to the valley. It is a delightful story presented with creative and authentic illustrations by Panamanian artists. The character lived his adventure in El Valle de Antón an extinct volcano with a unique climate that hosts a calm and friendly village. Enrique is an upper school student who lives in the historical agricultural region of Andalusia Spain. He attends an international school and works at his familys sunflower field business after school and on the weekends. He likes soccer and outdoor activities. Luckily for him in his junior year he had the opportunity to be part of a cultural exchange-travel program to go across the Atlantic Ocean to Panama. His best friend Beto joins him. They stay with two different host families. Enriques host family lives and owns a hostal in El Valle and they have a daughter named Lily who meets him at the airport in her Uber. There was an immediate connection between Lily and Enrique which develops a friendship that continues beyond the legend of the mountain into the preservation of the trail.
