Sir Jack Wilkins is a celebrated recently retired judge who is haunted by a ruling he made many years ago in a rape case concerning a well-known MP. He believes he was responsible for a tragic outcome. On a holiday in Venice with his wife he visits the Church of San Giorgio and with the encouragement of an Italian priest Father Anthony seeks a resolution by partly reconstructing the original trial. Professional actors bring their own insights and experiences to the exercise with dramatic and surprising consequences. The play ends with a return to the Church of San Giorgio with the hope of finding the mysterious Father Anthony... Nigel Pascoe is a senior QC acting principally in murder cases who also writes plays and stages one man shows notably the Trial of Penn and Mead (Old Bailey 1670).
