Last Guardians

This book is an account of the final years of empire from the perspective of an Administrative Colonial officer. Philip Bowcocks service in Sudan included a period in the Upper Nile Province followed by service as District Commissioner and later Magistrate in Northern Rhodesia in the period leading up to independence in 1964. Last Guardians reveals his professional political and administrative career alongside a close family story and against the backdrop of Britains late imperial history.
