Last Man Out

With a deep love of airplanes a young man from rural Pennsylvania joins the Army Air Corps during World War II becomes a B-17 waist gunner and is shot down over France on a milk run. Alone in a foreign country with Germans searhing for him Mack must evade capture and somehow return home. It will take three months on the run to make his way to the Normandy beachhead. In England Airey Neave himself an escapee from German POW camps is assigned to MI9. His orders are to find a way to aid downed airmen who are in the pincer grasp between Patton's 3rd army and desperate Germans. Mack's parachute lands him square in the middle! This is the story of Freteval Forest codenamed Sherwooda secret camp that sheltered downed airmen in the closing months of World War II and the heroic actions of the French Resistance and many French citizens.
