Lavengro

The novel is largely autobiographical in nature and draws heavily on Borrow's own experiences. It follows the story of its protagonist Lavengro who is based on Borrow himself as he navigates his way through various adventures and encounters with different cultures and social classes. The title character Lavengro is depicted as a scholar with a deep love for languages and literature. He is also drawn to the Romani (Gypsy) way of life and spends time traveling with and learning from Gypsies. Additionally Lavengro interacts with a Catholic priest which adds a religious dimension to the narrative.
