Anna wakes up but remembers nothing. An old trunk and a portrait on the wall of her study are the only clues to a past she must now reconstruct. Diaries and bundled letters tied with faded ribbons from eight Italian girls reveal the trials and deprivations of World War II Italy. <p>After the discovery of these writings Anna befriends the stranger in the mirror; thus unraveling the truth about the eight young women in war-torn Italy whose lives were fortuitously intertwined in the 60's in San Francisco resulting in a lifelong friendship.<p>This novel is in part inspired by actual events during World War II.
