First heard with the opera's premiere on October 9 1826 in Paris' Salle le Peletier Rossini's ballet music gradually gained in popularity ever since even though the opera itself is only rarely performed now. As with the overtures this orchestra selection has not been treated very well by publishers over the decades. Part of the problem stems from the composer's own manuscripts which were the product of rapid composing under pressure from opera houses. Many things which were simply assumed by performers of the era from their first appearance and applied to analogous passages weren't by those of later eras. This new study score is a licensed reprint of the superb performing edition prepared by Clark McAlister in 2014 using the pseudonym Howard K. Wolf.

With the demise of the original publisher E.F. Kalmus in 2019 Dr. McAlister was able to reclaim is many fine orchestrations and editions. Serenissima is now the exclusive publisher for McAlister's catalogue. The matching large score and orchestra parts are now also available.
