LEADERSHIP OF THE PRINCIPAL OF A REGULAR BASIC EDUCATION INSTITUTION

Most organizations require leaders to lead their human talent towards success the absence of leadership could determine the failure of an organization especially if we refer to institutions that provide educational services. The situation becomes more critical if we consider that a quality educational service has as one of its fundamental variables the managerial leadership that is the leadership that the director of the educational institution should exercise. In some Latin American countries principals of public schools are managers but are not effective leaders; that is they have not been able to adequately combine their knowledge skills and talents in order to effectively combine their management and leadership abilities. Leadership is mainly built on the basis of specific talents of the principal but how to measure the level of managerial leadership? How can the level of managerial leadership be improved in order to be an effective leader? In this book we explain our proposal which is the result of a research work started in 2009 and implies a pragmatic valid and reliable instrument.
