About The Book

In my work How Applying Behavioral Economy To Bring Social Benefit explores the mechanisms by which individuals and institutions can align personal incentives with broader societal goals. Achieving a life mission through this lens requires a systematic application of nudges-a concept popularized by Thaler and Sunstein-which posits that small low-cost changes in the choice architecture of an environment can significantly influence behavior without restricting freedom of choice.

To achieve a life mission using the principles of behavioral economics one must first recognize the cognitive biases that often impede long-term goal attainment. Humans are prone to present bias where the immediate gratification of a small reward outweighs the long-term benefit of a larger mission-critical objective.

My view suggests that by restructuring one's personal environment-a process often referred to as pre-commitment-individuals can effectively bypass these biases. For instance if an individual's mission involves social contribution they might automate their charitable giving or volunteer hours effectively removing the need for repeated effortful decision-making that is susceptible to procrastination or fatigue.
