About The Book

The study of human behavior in transit and performance environments reveals distinct psychological drivers that differentiate the passenger from the theater audience.

In my work Learning Audience and Passenger my view explores the intersection of transportation infrastructure and human psychology positing that while both groups are audiences in a sense their underlying needs are governed by fundamentally different objectives.

The passenger's psychology is primarily defined by utility efficiency and the necessity of movement. As noted in broader transportation literature the passenger is a participant in an economic cycle where time is a commodity to be minimized.

My view argues that the passenger's primary need is the reduction of friction-the time and effort required to move from an origin to a destination. The passenger is goal-oriented; their satisfaction is derived from the reliability of the network the speed of transit and the seamlessness of the journey. In this context the transportation network is designed to facilitate economic growth by ensuring that labor and goods reach their destinations with minimal temporal cost.
