Palisade Nevada--July 1878The sheriff of Elko County stands in the Lind family home on the outskirts of town on a hot dry Sunday morning. Hes staring at Meg Lind dead on the kitchen floor a single bullet ripped through her chest. Earlier her brute-of-a-husband Daniel was found standing over her body with revolver in hand. Their daughter seven-year old Allie is left without a parent to care for her. The sheriff reluctantly steps in to rescue Allie from the evil of the town--and in doing so forever binds them. Over the following several years the sheriff Allie and Daniel are all forced to face their unsettled pasts.
