Liberation from Addiction

Liberation from stigma is the first step in freeing from addiction.Historical and clinical scientific considerations of alcoholcocaine and stimulants are reviewed. As an example of stigmaE.O'Neill's master-piece playwright “Long Day's Journey IntoNight” is given. Primary secondary and terciary prevention ofaddiction with evidence based pharmacological treatment ofalcohol cocaine and other stimulants and opiates addiction isdiscussed. Especial attention is given to simultaneous andcombined pharmacotherapy of addiction and co-occurringdisorders. The new Portugal law which decriminalizes addictionand captures liberation of stigma is reviewed. Ending with themovie “Flight” which embraces the concept of freedom fromaddiction and stigma.
