Library and Information Science Education in India

ABOUT THE BOOK LIS education is the most crucial input for the development of libraries. It provides the necessary strength and resilience to library and information professionals to adequately respond to the changing environment. Therefore library education must be given the greatest attention that it deserves. Library education in India must evolve along right lines; it must be redesigned innovatively to meet the needs of knowledge-based society. The book has been primarily written to meet the needs of the teachers of Library and Information Science. It will also serve as a basic source for students of LIS for the course on ‘LIS Education’ both at M. Phil. and MLIS levels. The chapters on levels of courses admission requirements course content course delivery accreditation etc. provide a broad view of the way library education in India is moving. There are some new ideas techniques and tools described that can be adopted to improve the quality of teaching. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Professor Krishan Kumar retired as Head Department of Library and Information Science University of Delhi. He was Professor in the Department from 1984 to 1998. He is Past-President Indian Library Association and Past-President Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science. He has served as member Scientific Advisory Board International Society for Knowledge Organisation and also Chairman of its Indian Chapter; Secretary International Conference on Ranganathan’s Philosophy held in 1985 in New Delhi; Convener UGC Panel on Library Science 1985-87; Editor Library Herald 1981-2002. He has written 17 books.
