Life Support in Pediatric Dentistry

Medical emergencies which are life-threatening can and do occur in the dental office. Most of the recommendations for treating medical emergencies in the dental office are oriented towards the adult patient and recommendations for the management of medical emergencies in the child patient are not readily available. A Pediatric Dentist must have equipment specifically for the paediatric dental patient. It is therefore important to be familiar with the knowledge and skills required for Pediatric Basic Life Support so that the best care possible can be delivered in what is often a stressful situation.
