Little Philippe of Belgium by Madeline Brandeis is a captivating tale of a young boy named Philippe affectionately called the Brussels Sprout who lives on a farm near Brussels. Tom suggests that Philippe and Rose join them in traveling and performing sparking Philippe's imagination. Although his parents refuse Philippe's longing for adventure remains. His chance comes when he meets two foreign gentlemen who invite him to Antwerp. During this trip Philippe spots Tom and Zelie and impulsively decides to follow them to Ghent leaving behind his companions and embarking on an unexpected journey. The story beautifully captures Philippe's innocence his yearning for adventure and the cultural richness of Belgium all while exploring themes of family friendship and the pursuit of dreams.
