They proceed to the country of Pankor where soldiers are stored there in frozen conditions until a battle breaks out. He finds his granddaughter Llana of Gathol who is being kept captive by one of those coincidences that are typical in Burroughss works. They eventually arrive at the country of Invak whose citizens have perfected the skill of becoming invisible. John Carter takes a plane to the remote city of Horz in quest of tranquilly.
