<p>First Published in 1952 <i>The Local Government Service </i>describes in general terms the character and extent of the tasks which the body of public servants employed by the local authorities is called upon to perform. Part I comprises a general survey; Part II studies in greater detail the character and work of the agencies which are shaping the service - the organizations of employers and staff the Whitley machinery and the local authority in its capacity as an individual employer; while Part III deals with the more important aspects and issues of qualification and training in a way which could not have been attempted in part I without impeding the narrative.</p><p>This is a must read for students of public administration and political science.</p>
