<p>Alan Cobham wanted to help Britain take a lead in international air travel so he organised and financed this first flight to Australia and back. Read how Cobham and engineer Arthur Ward took on the challenges of more than 50 landing strips through the Middle East and Asia as well as hairy river and sea-landings where no strips existed.
