Two distinct type of facial form have been characterized in the literature as skeletal open bite or hyperdivergent and skeletal deep bite or hypodivergent. Persons with relatively long or disproportionately excessive lower facial heights have also been described by the term long face syndrome. In term of facial type an open bite is associated with excessive lower anterior facial height relative to upper facial height. Posterior face height tends to be approximately one half of the size of the total anterior face height while ramal length is short.
