About The Book
Description
Author
In the turbulent 1960s the South went through the growing pains of integration. The transition in the town of Lewiston Tennessee was fairly painless and violence free except for the actions of a few recalcitrant individuals. The towns leading lawyer Knox Sturgis with the help of a judge and sheriff resisted the new order with every means at their disposal. Attorney Fletcher Jackson was their opposite and was in the trenches fighting for the less fortunate long before it was popular. He had just begun research on land fraud perpetrated by Margaret Killmeade when cancer began its deadly attack on his body. His son Chandler and his secretarys son Austin Douglas took up the gauntlet Fletecher threw down but were thwarted at every turn by Judge Darnell and Sheriff Fergueson. When the judge and the sheriff discovered Margaret counting the half million dollars that went missing from the Steinberg estate twenty years ago they entered the house with the intent to murder Margaret and take the money. But the old lady thwarted them as she had done all her adversaries over the years and the two left without the money. It was at this time that a member of the black family that had been swindled out of their land by Margaret entered the picture. Alvin Douglas actions led to the courtroom drama where Judge Darnell meted out his own special brand of justice in an attempt to bring the civil rights movement in Lewiston to an end.
