Lost Face

The central character in the story is an unnamed man who finds himself captured by a tribe of Native Americans known as the Raven tribe. The tribes chief a shrewd and cunning man named Makamuk plans to torture the man to death in a sadistic game called Lost Face. The game involves inflicting pain and suffering on the captive while he tries to maintain a stoic and impassive expression. As the man faces the prospect of his impending torture and death he begins to contemplate his options for escape. He realizes that he needs to find a way to outwit Makamuk and the tribe in order to survive. With the help of a young Native woman named Neepah the man hatches a plan to deceive the chief and secure his freedom. Through a series of twists and turns the man manages to manipulate Makamuk and escape from his captors. However the story takes a dark turn as the mans true nature is revealed. In a moment of desperation he betrays Neepah leaving her behind to face the wrath of the Raven tribe. Lost Face explores the themes of survival deception and the inherent savagery that can be found within human beings. It delves into the depths of human desperation and the moral compromises people are willing to make in order to ensure their own survival.
